Increase the number of skilled workers in Florida’s transportation-related industries


 

Implementation Actions

Align transportation investments to support development of logistics, manufacturing, innovation, and other industry clusters

Enhance coordination and data sharing between FDOT and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity to identify key industry clusters and the transportation investments needed to support clusters.

This Implementation Action supports the following FTP objectives:
  • Provide transportation infrastructure and services to support job growth in transportation-dependent industries and clusters
  • Increase transportation connectivity between Florida’s economic centers and regions
  • Increase transportation connectivity between Florida and global and national trading partners and visitor origin markets

 

Continue to implement and update the Freight Mobility and Trade Plan (FMTP)

Identify and accelerate investments in trade gateways, corridors, and intermodal logistics centers to support growth in global trade.

This Implementation Action supports the following FTP objectives:
  • Provide transportation infrastructure and services to support job growth in transportation-dependent industries and clusters
  • Increase transportation connectivity between Florida’s economic centers and regions
  • Increase transportation connectivity between Florida and global and national trading partners and visitor origin markets

 

Develop transportation strategies to support growth in visitor activity

Key Partners Include:
  • Florida DOT
  • Visit Florida
  • Metropolitan Planning Organization Advisory Council
  • Florida Ports Council
  • Florida Airports Council

Better document transportation needs and preferences of visitors, and transportation strategies needed to sustain long-term growth in visitor activity.

This Implementation Action supports the following FTP objectives:
  • Provide transportation infrastructure and services to support job growth in transportation-dependent industries and clusters
  • Increase transportation connectivity between Florida’s economic centers and regions
  • Increase transportation connectivity between Florida and global and national trading partners and visitor origin markets
  • Increase the number of quality options for visitor travel to, from, and within Florida

 

Develop a statewide transportation workforce strategy

Document future demands for transportation-related workers (including changing skill requirements to reflect new technologies and logistics practices) and identify strategies for meeting these needs.

This Implementation Action supports the following FTP objectives:

  • Increase the number of skilled workers in Florida’s transportation-related industries

 

Improve efficiency of transportation regulatory transactions

Work with partners to identify specific opportunities to reduce transaction time, improve predictability, and adapt regulations and processes to reflect new technologies.
