Implementation Actions

Use regional visions to guide major transportation capacity decisions

  • Florida Association of Counties
  • Florida League of Cities

Continue to encourage broad-based regional visioning processes that link transportation, land use, economic development, community development, and environmental stewardship decisions. Use regional visions to balance statewide and local needs where available. Update existing regional visions and promote regional visioning in areas not currently guided by an active vision.

This Implementation Action supports the following FTP objectives:

Continue to coordinate with local governments to better align transportation plans with existing and proposed land use plans

Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to local governments as they create or retrofit mobility solutions and land use plans for their communities consistent with local visions and plans. Provide technical support to local governments to identify context sensitive solutions, including updates to design, parking, zoning, access management, and other policies and codes.

  • Provide convenient, efficient accessibility to the transportation system for Florida’s residents and visitors
  • Provide transportation solutions that contribute to improved public health

 

Improve understanding of customer needs and values with emphasis on demographic trends such as growth in millennials and older residents

Document changes to demographic trends and customer preferences and continue to focus on ongoing research on demographics, millennial behavior, tourism, and seasonal trends. Identify specific emphasis areas for incorporation in future plans.

This Implementation Action supports the following FTP objectives:
  • Plan and develop transportation systems that reflect regional and community values, visions, and needs
  • Provide convenient, efficient accessibility to the transportation system for Florida’s residents and visitors
  • Provide transportation solutions that contribute to improved public health

 

Develop approaches for closer alignment of transportation and public health plans

  • Bike/Ped Partnership Council
  • Modal partners
  • Safe Mobility for Life Coalition
  • Medical/first response partners
  • Educators

Collaborate with health partners, including the Florida Department of Health on their State Health Improvement Plan, to identify specific emphasis areas and strategies. Continue to support initiatives such as Safe Mobility for Life and SunTrail.
